2024 is going to be a good year. I can just tell. I feel like everything I am seeing is motivational, focused on being your best self but not to the point of overwhelm. I am here for this!
I do love the feeling of a new year, a clean slate and an opportunity to set goals and have tangible things to work towards. Whether it's health, career, or finances or just doing something for you, there are lots of ways you can set yourself up for success.
Ask for help!
With the likes of X and LinkedIn, help is available if you need it. If you are studying, you could look into tutoring, if you are in work you could work with a coach or mentor. It's in most people's nature to like to help and share knowledge so don't be afraid to reach out!
You might also find students working towards accreditation who are looking for people to work with. I can vouch for this as I am currently working towards a Degree Apprenticeship in Coaching and take on coachees to support my studies.
Set yourself up for success
It might sound like a cliche but having SMART goals is essential.
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Relevant
T - Time bound
One of the key components of coaching is getting down to the specifics, what is it that you want to achieve? Have you tried things related to the goal in the past? How will you know if you have been successful? What does success look like? How much do you want to succeed - i.e how committed are you to achieving your goal? When will you take the actions required to move closer to your goal?
It can be a marathon rather than a sprint but it really helps avoid overwhelm when you break your goal down into achievable components. It is human nature to respond well to reward too so having lots of goals that you don't feel you are making progress on can be counter productive.
Identify the tools you need
Are you visual or do you learn and be motivated by sound/audio? There are so many tools out there to support you on your personal development journey. I am a huge advocate for journalling and using organisation and prioritisation techniques, seeing things ticked off a list is one of the best ways to highlight your success.
There are lots of Podcasts out there and audio books for you to learn and develop in different ways. Use your down time to develop. That morning commute or cleaning the bathroom could be a perfect way to incorporate learning into your routine. There's also SO many options on YouTube to pick up skills or have something explained to you. Want to learn a language? There's an app for that...
Organisation is key. I work best when I block out time or make an appointment with myself to do my work. Everything goes on a list! It helps me keep track of what I need to do and supports multitasking and prioritisation. I have heard good things about Notion so I will be setting my account up, seeing how it goes and will report back!
You do YOU - the sky is the limit
Want a career change? It can be done! Want to learn something completely new? Go get em.. this is YOUR life and dreams, and with focus, you can do anything you set your mind to.
What are your goals for 2024?
