It’s easy to think of confidence as something you either have or do not have, but of course, that binary is not necessarily accurate. Moreover, this picture suggests that confidence is something you either feel or do not based on the kind of person you are, if you deserve to feel it, and of course, if you’ve given yourself permission to.
The reality is that confidence is actually more like a fire you need to feed in order to enjoy the benefits. Some days, this fire might burn brightly, other days it will be a humble set of embers. It’s okay if you don’t feel particularly confident today, because this might just be a day where you need to focus on what’s important, to recharge, and to live comfortably instead of expressing yourself from morning to night.
That said, there are some times where you really do need your confidence, be that enjoying your summer vacations with a friend, starting a new job, or simply moving on from a broken down relationship. In this post, we’ll discuss how to get in touch with that part of yourself once more, in the best possible circumstances:
Morning Self-Care
The way you start your day can have a significant impact on your confidence level. Begin your day by practising self-care activities that make you feel good, even if that’s just dancing to your Spotify playlist in front of the mirror on a weekend. More sensibly, this may include stretching, meditation, journaling, or listening to your favorite podcast.
Make sure to eat a nutritious breakfast to fuel your body and mind for the day ahead too, it makes a huge difference to your cognition. Take a moment to appreciate yourself and set positive intentions for the day. This might sound rather rote, but giving yourself that personal investment can help you feel more prepared to tackle whatever comes your way.
Prioritise Your Day
Feeling overwhelmed can quickly erode your confidence. Take a few minutes each morning to plan and prioritize your day. Identify the most important tasks and schedule them accordingly. Break down large projects into smaller, more manageable steps that you actually can do, even if you’re not so thrilled about them. Use a planner or to-do list to keep track of your progress and hold yourself accountable. If unexpected tasks come up, re-evaluate your priorities and adjust your schedule as needed. Often, confidence comes from how on top of things we feel. If we feel out of control, the confidence goes. So make sure to spend time planning, as it really does help.
Pay Attention to How You Dress
What you wear really does influence how you feel about yourself. Dress in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident, but don’t worry, this doesn’t have to involve super expensive garments. For example, you may dress up for an important meeting, wear comfortable shoes for a busy day, or pack beautiful designer bikini sets for your upcoming beach vaction. Make sure your clothing is clean, well-fitted, and appropriate for the occasion. You can express yourself with accessories. If you haven’t tried new clothes in a while, try to sell some of your old ones as you outfit your wardrobe. Keep your garments cycling when you can. Keep it personal. You’ll be amazed at the results.
With this advice, you’ll be sure to thrive as your most confident self.
